Receiving Federal Pension Benefits Abroad

Do you qualify for Social Security or other American federal benefits but currently reside in El Salvador?  The U.S. Embassy in San Salvador has a direct deposit program for federal beneficiaries who receive payments from Social Security, Veteran Affairs and Civil Service. Usually, the deposits are made on the 3rd of each month. Beneficiaries that have recently moved to El Salvador should contact the Federal Benefits Desk of the American Citizen Services Unit to enroll in the direct deposit program. Local banks charge a $6.00 monthly fee for the service. Currently, U.S. Embassy San Salvador has 100% of beneficiaries enrolled. Visit our website for more information.

Notarial Services

Conducting legal transactions when overseas can be very challenging.  However, should you require the assistance of a notary, the American Embassy can help.  We process requests for notarial services every day from 8:15 to 11:30 a.m. The fee for most notarial services is $30 USD for the first notarization and $20 USD for each of the subsequent notarials. For some other notarial services, the fees may vary.

American Citizen Services Hours

May 7th was the first Wednesday that the  American Citizen Services Unit closed for non-emergency, walk-in services.  The ACS Unit will now be closed the first Wednesday of every month for non-emergency services. Citizens may contact  the Embassy at any time for emergencies.

Voting 2008

US citizens 18 years or older who are or will be residing outside the United States may be able to vote by absentee ballot in any election for local, state, or federal office.  Get more information by visiting the official U.S. Government website for overseas absentee www.fvap.gov
