The Information Resource Center (IRC) of the American Embassy in San Salvador provides fast, accurate, and objective reference services on a wide range of U.S. subjects to Salvadoran government officials, journalists, non-governmental organizations, universities and businesses.

The IRC is a part of the Embassy’s Public Affairs Office. It offers access to major U.S. data sources, on-line databases, and Internet resources. It also has a reference collection and offers a variety of American magazines and journals. In short, the IRC is the most complete source of information on the U.S. in El Salvador.

NEWS & EVENTS
IFLA CONFERENCE

September 26th, 2008

IFLA (International Federation of Libraries and Associations) representative in El Salvador offered a presentation on recent IFLA developments in the country and the Central American region. The event, organized by IRC- El Salvador, took place at the Chancery Auditorium in the American Embassy and was attended by university and government librarians.

DVC ON PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN CENTRAL AMERICA

September 25th, 2008

IRC-El Salvador joined four other posts in the region (Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica) in a video-conference to analyze the current situation of public libraries in Central America and explore the possibility to establish regional information network.

THE ITINERANT LIBRARY GOES TO PARAISO DE OSORIO

June 10th, 2008

The Itinerant Library "Bernardo Melero", a project by the U.S. Embassy and the Salvadoran Binational Center (CCSA) to promote American culture and reading among young people, was inaugurated in Paraíso de Osorio, departament of La Paz, where it will be available to students and the general public. Earth Day ::: Día de la TierraEarth Day is celebrated every April 22 in the United States and many parts of the World. Its main objective is to create conscience on pollution and deforestation problems everywhere, on how to protect and preserve the biodiversity and about the threat of global warming. HOW TO REQUEST INFORMATION

Journalists, government and non-government organizations, cultural representatives, librarians, academics, students, etc. are encouraged to send their inquiries by fax: (503) 2278 6015 or filling our Request Form.

Please include your name, organization, fax and/or e-mail and telephone numbers, and area of research interest, to help us respond to your request.
Note: we will not answer inquiries about visas, immigration, and citizenship matters. All such inquiries must be referred to the Consular Section.

 

OFFICE HOURS

The IRC is opened to the public the following days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am to 12:00m and 1:00 to 4:00pm.
Other days also available by appointment.
