Department of Commerce seeks candidates for Information Technologies Fellowship

The U.S. Department of Commerce is hosting an Information Technologies (IT) fellowship program directed toward young IT professionals from the CAFTA region. The program, which will take place in the United States over the period of three weeks in June 2005, will include seminars, site visits and introductions to IT in various company settings.

The program is aimed at helping the IT professional to better integrate information technology into their company in order to increase competitiveness in domestic and global markets. The program, which will include 15 individuals from the region, is specially suited for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing and service industries (not including IT companies).

Successful candidates will travel to Washington, DC, Silicon Valley, California, and other markets to meet with companies employing IT. Attendees will learn about innovative techniques to use technology in their own companies, IT products, technology trends and choices, evaluating hardware and software, on-line sales, managing IT resources, and IT security. Travel and per diem expenses will be funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Target candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Employed in a SME
• At least 3 years experience in IT
• Proficient in spoken English (interview required prior to travel)
• Commitment to make two presentations to discuss IT lessons learned, upon returning to the country
