CHF closes reconstruction program

US Ambassador H. Douglas Barclay participated in the formal opening of the Municipal Palace of San Francisco Javier, Usulután, as part of the closing ceremony of the post earthquake reconstruction program of the NGO Cooperative Housing Foundation, CHF.

CHF International received $30.4 million through USAD to implement a reconstruction program after the earthquakes that hit El Salvador in 2001. CHF built 6,265 permanent houses in 47 municipalities in the Departments of Usulután, La Paz, Ahuachapán, Sonsonate, San Vicente, La Libertad, Morazán, San Miguel and San Salvador. CHF also constructed six municipal buildings in San Francisco Javier, Chapeltique, San Agustín, San Carlos Morazán, San Juan Tepezontes and Santo Tomás. They also contributed with risk mitigation programs and workshops for natural disaster readiness.
