Update on Hurricane Adrian
May 20,
2005
*****
COEN, the Salvadoran National Emergency Center, reports
that the worst that could have happened with the hurricane
occurred Thursday evening and early Friday morning; the rain
has diminished considerably within El Salvador. There was
no loss of life nor major damages to property.
The major
impact of Adrian will be economic, since the public sector
closed for two days and the business sector also operated
on reduced hours. The major problem to resolve over the
next two days is related to the 135 temporary shelters, which
had approximately 26,000 people as of mid-day Friday.
The
U.S. Embassy continues to monitor the situation in close
coordination with the government.
