Chargé Philip French Explains ILEA to Media

In a press conference on June 8, U.S. Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Philip C. French spoke to Salvadoran media about the creation of an International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in El Salvador. He said ILEA would provide training for police officers from the entire Western Hemisphere in combating drug trafficking, alien smuggling, trafficking in persons, and other forms of international crime.

El Salvador was selected as the site for ILEA in recognition of its political stability and the professionalism of its police force. ILEA will help build a law enforcement network that will increase police cooperation in the Hemisphere and promote respect for international standards of human rights.
