Changing of the Guard
August 26, 2005

*****

The months of June, July and August traditionally bring many personnel changes at U.S. embassies around the world.  El Salvador is no exception.  Among the senior-level officials who have recently arrived are Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Michael A. Butler (pictured at left), Counselor for Political Affairs Carlos Garcia,  Management Counselor John M. Lipinski, and USAID/El Salvador Deputy Director Larry Brady.

DCM Butler has a Ph.D. in American History (with a focus on U.S. diplomatic history), has written one book and is currently working on another.  He has served in Portugal, Romania, Argentina, Norway, and Spain, as well as Washington, D.C.  (For a complete bio, click here.)

Carlos Garcia comes to San Salvador from Managua (Nicaragua), where he headed the Political Section, Mr. Lipinski from Kampala (Uganda), where he served as Management Officer, and Mr. Brady from Washington, D.C., where he coordinated USAID's relief efforts following last December's tsunami in Asia.
