The Government of the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), has donated $50,000 more in funding for assistance for the problems caused by the heavy rains and flooding that have affected El Salvador.
With this new donation, the US has donated $100,000 to assist El Salvador in this new emergency. The assistance is again being channeled through the Catholic Relief Service, CRS. With the first $50,000, CRS distributed emergency goods in the shelters in the area of Bajo Lempa in San Vicente and Usulutan. The new donation will be used to provide support to the shelters in Ahuachapán, Santa Ana and Sonsonate
In addition, USAID provided the National Emergency Committee (COEN) 55 boxes of reinforced plastic sheeting to be used for the construction of temporary shelters for approximately 1,650 people. This donation is worth $15,400.
