December 21, 2005

*****

On Monday, December 12th, a delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), headed by Vice President of Operations John Hewko, met with Salvadoran President Elías Antonio Saca.

As part of its support for the Salvadoran government's ambitious plan to improve the quality and reach of English-language teaching, the U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section has awared a total of 14 scholarships for local English-language educators to take a one-month intensive training program in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).

The course is offered by the renowed School for International Training (SIT) of Brattleboro, Vermont at its branch in San Carlos, Costa Rica. Upon successful completion of the course, the teachers will earn a "SIT TESOL Certificate," which is recognized worldwide. SIT graduates find challenging teaching positions in the U.S. and abroad, or return to their current jobs with new skills and greater knowledge, awareness, and satisfaction. Pictures are the eight Salvadoran teachers who will participate in the January course.
