US Ambassador H. Douglas Barclay participated this Decemeber 14 in a ceremony to open the new Constituent Services Office at the Salvadoran Legislative Assembly, along with Legislative Assembly President Ruben Orellana, other legislators, and the acting representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), German Cruz.
The new office will provide legislative services and information through personal attention to those who visit the Assembly, through the availability of digital information, and through free telephone consultation (800-ASAMBLEA).
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) invested approximately $65,000 for the creation of this new service for constituents. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) also provided support to this initiative.
USAID assisted the Legislative Assembly for a period of 15 years to strengthen its ability to engage in more analytical and informed policy dialogue internally and with other branches of government. USAID also assisted the legislature to enhance its constituent outreach services, fostering greater citizen participation in and understanding of the legislative process, and making more transparent the legislative decision-making process as part of its modernization process.
