Ambassador Charles L. Glazer hands out the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation
July 25, 2008

*****

MARTE director Roberto Galicia and board president María Marta de Regalado receive a symbolic check from Ambassador Charles L. Glazer and his wife Janet.

On July 25, Ambassador Charles L. Glazer visited San Salvador’s Museum of Modern Art, El Museo de Arte de El Salvador (MARTE), to present the museum’s Board of Directors with a symbolic check for over $20,000 from the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.  The funding will be used to record, document, manage and preserve 225 Salvadoran works of art, including 50 pieces by the painter Rosa Mena Valenzuela and several sketches by José Mejía Vides.

During the event, Ambassador Glazer toured MARTE’s Exhibition Hall and viewed numerous works that will directly benefit from the Ambassador’s Fund grant.  “Inside [MARTE’s] walls, visitors can observe the development of Salvadoran art, art history, and indeed, Salvadoran society … The people of the United States are proud to help preserve these Salvadoran treasures,” Ambassador Glazer stated.

The Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation is a highly competitive grant program awarded each year to help protect cultural treasures around the world.  The MARTE project was selected as one of 68 winning proposals in 2008.  The Department of State received nearly 200 proposals from 94 different countries this year.
