The U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Office and the local chapter sponsored a series of events involving a delegation from The American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) during their tour of El Salvador. During the visit, delegates engaged with senior government and political officials, industry executives, and community leaders on national, bilateral and regional issues.
The ACYPL delegation also had the opportunity to interact with students and educators to discuss a wide range of political, economic and cultural themes. The Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Robert I. Blau, joined the group at the Universidad Panamericana for a forum entitled “The Latin vote and its Effect in the 2008 U.S. Elections.” The delegates exchanged ideas with students and faculty during events at the Universidad Don Bosco, the Universidad Nacional de El Salvador, and the Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano as well.
The ACYPL delegation included Republicans, Democrats and Independents, drawn from diverse backgrounds in government and public service.
The ACYPL receives an annual competitive grant from the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. State Department funding allows ACYPL to conduct bipartisan, bilateral educational exchanges in as many as 30 countries each year.
