*****

US Ambassador Charles L. Glazer and WHINSEC Commander Col. Felix Santiago pose after the change of command ceremony at Fort Benning, Georgia.

US Ambassador to El Salvador, Charles L. Glazer, attended the change of command of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, WHINSEC, where former Commander of the U.S. Military Group in El Salvador, Col. Felix Santiago, assumed command of this regional institute.

Col. Santiago took over command of WHINSEC from Col. Gilberto Perez in a ceremony held July 29 outside the school's headquarters at Ridgway Hall, Fort Benning, Georgia. The event drew leaders and dignitaries from around the country and across Latin America.

The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation is a Department of Defense institute that instructs rising civilian, military and law enforcement leaders from throughout the Western Hemisphere.  Its goals include strengthening democracy, instilling respect for the rule of law and honoring human rights.  It educates an array of military and civilian students to solve regional problems, including peacefully resolving border conflicts; fighting terrorism, the illegal drug trade and organized crime; responding to natural disasters; and supporting peacekeeping efforts.
